Joseph Coute, formerly of Fall River, MA, passed away in late 2021 at the age of 104. A marine engineer in the shipping industry, Mr. Coute had worked aboard various cargo vessels all over the world. Joseph served his country honorably as a chief engineer with the US Coast Guard- Merchant Marines during World War II – in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Middle East and Pacific war zones. 
Several years ago, Mr. Coute donated land to St. Joseph Healthcare in Hudson and Garland Maine. Upon making his gift, Mr. Coute was exempt from paying real estate taxes or maintenance expenses and received a large income tax deduction. The proceeds from the sale of land were used to make needed improvements at St. Joseph Hospital. His legacy gift will continue to safeguard members of his community well into the future.
