In recognition of a $12+ million gift from the late John Marshall Webber, St. Joseph Healthcare named the inpatient care floors the John Marshall Webber Care Center. This donation will enhance inpatient and surgical care facilities with improved accessibility, comfort and technology. As part of this recognition, exterior signage was installed on the hospital, which can be seen on Center Street. Further recognition was placed in the hospital lobby outside the main elevators, including information about Mr. Webber and a self-portrait he drew as a young man.
A Bangor native and decorated Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Webber graduated from the University of Maine with an art degree in 1970. He was passionate about philosophy, investing and animal welfare and remained deeply committed to St. Joe’s mission of whole-person care throughout his lifetime.
“It was a pleasure to care for John over many years, and I feel lucky to have gotten to know him so well,” says his long-time St. Joe’s physician, David Koffman, MD. “I was always impressed by his sense of humor no matter what he faced medically. His gift will profoundly impact our community for years to come.”
This tribute to Mr. Webber’s generosity ensures that his vision for enhanced healthcare in his beloved hometown will continue to benefit Bangor and beyond.
