The state of Maine granted over $41,528 to fund one nursing position for the St. Joseph Healthcare SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner) nurse program.
Studies show one in five women and one in six men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. SAFE nurses offer confidential physical and emotional care for the victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking, and invest in building a network of support for victims through the training and education of more than 20 agencies and approximately 500 individuals statewide.
Thanks to the grant funding, we are closer to our goal of providing 24/7 care to survivors while remaining a resource for our community partners.
