Bangor, Maine, St. Joseph Healthcare – On Sunday, September 25, the Greater Bangor community comes together to participate in the 4th Annual Commit to Get Fit. The event is held at Broadway Park in Bangor.
Commit to Get Fit is a community 10K and 5K run, a 5K walk, and a Kids Fun Run. The Kids Fun Run begins at 8:45 a.m. and all walkers and runners events begin at 9:00 a.m. We also have more than 100 volunteers who will be at Broadway Park, and along the beautiful course, to keep everyone safe and hydrated.
The event is about community health and the importance of being fit. “I have been the Race Director for four years,” said Brad Ryder. “The event is such a good time to come together around a shared goal of living a healthy, active life. This event is such a good time. The kids have a blast running and enjoying kid-friendly activities. It’s also a great course for the first-timer as well as the competitive walker or runner.”
Not only is the event fun, but it is also a fundraiser for an important cause. All proceeds go to support the St. Joseph SAFE program, which provides professional nursing care for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of interpersonal violence. Additionally, the SAFE nurses provide education and partner with members of the community to recognize and help those in need of care. St. Joseph SAFE nurses will have a table at the event with education and resources.
Fundraising has included individual fundraisers and corporate sponsorship. St. Joseph is thrilled to have Quick Auto Group return this year as the event’s Presenting Sponsor. They also acknowledge the local media for helping them get the word out to the community.
The final online registration is Friday, September 23, and day of registration will be available.
