Support for the heart, mind, and spirit during times of illness and healing.
To be hospitalized or if you require short of long-term nursing or rehabilitation care can be extremely challenging. Many people find that talking with a chaplain can help during this period. Chaplains are professionally trained and are either board-certified or in training for certification. We can provide a Bible, Torah, Koran and send religious and uplifting text messages upon request. We provide spiritual support to patients, residents, family members, friends, and staff members at St. Joseph Healthcare and Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. For more information about Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Services, please call 207.907.1798.
An integral part of our health care team, chaplains are available during regular hours and on-call to be a caring presence, offer spiritual and emotional support, and listen with openness and understanding. Patients, residents and families are encouraged to contact the Spiritual Care and Chaplain Services when experiencing feelings of fear, anger, loneliness, helplessness, anxiety, grief, or loss, or when they just need someone to listen.
Eucharistic Ministers provide communion daily to Catholic patients. The priest chaplain is available to administer the Sacrament of the Sick and Anointing and the Rite of Reconciliation.
Chaplains are available to support all our patients and deeply respect all beliefs and faith traditions. Patients do not need to be affiliated with a congregation, temple, mosque, or faith community to speak with a chaplain. They can also notify or facilitate communications with your faith community for a pastoral visit. Naturally, your minister, rabbi, mullah, or other spiritual advisor may visit you or your family member at any time.
