Community Support

At St. Joseph Healthcare, we’re committed to improving the health of all residents in greater Bangor. We follow through on this commitment by providing members of the community with the resources, education and support they need to live happier and healthier lives.

Below are our current goals and objectives — all of which were identified as top community health needs in the Community Health Implementation Plan.

Additional information can be found in the Maine shared summary report for Penobscot County.

  • Increase access to exercise
  • Increase access to healthy foods
  • Promote obesity prevention and education
  • Increase access and affordability of health care services
  • Improve methods of communication
  • Increase access and affordability of mental health services, including substance misuse
  • Increase mental health awareness and substance abuse prevention and education

The gift shop is run by volunteers and employees to meet the needs of our patients and their families. We are proud to be a source of comfort during uncertain times as well as to celebrate happy milestones along the way.

St. Joseph Healthcare is proud to be a host site for Project SEARCH. This program provides adults with disabilities the opportunity to learn skills in a business setting that often lead to employment after graduation.

The Arts in the Atrium program helps our patients and families heal through the gift of art. This program also keeps St. Joseph Healthcare connected to the greater Nashua community by offering opportunities to invite and welcome guests to the hospital for non-medical reasons.

Founded by the Grey Nuns, we continue to live their Mission by supporting the underprivileged in the greater Nashua community and partnering with local agencies to provide necessities to their clients.
