St. Joseph Healthcare launched The Daisy Award program in 2023 to recognize the care that nurses provide to patients, rooted in our values– compassion, integrity, collaboration and excellence.
The nonprofit Daisy Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. This award recognizes Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who brighten the days of their patients, families, and co-workers at St. Joseph Hospital. Honorees are selected based on demonstration of the St. Joseph Hospital Values of Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence.
Any St. Joseph Healthcare/ St. Joseph Hospital Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) can be nominated, but only staff who are working 20 or more hours per week in a direct patient care role are eligible to receive the honoree award. The honoree will be selected by the Nurse Practice Council using standardized criteria with name and other potential identifiers removed. Staff who are nominated for the award but not selected as the honoree will be recognized.
Anyone who wants to share their story about a nurse or CNA can do so. This includes patients, patient family members, clinical and non-clinical employees,
volunteers, or community members.
There are three ways to submit a nomination:
Yes. We will give four Sunshine Awards and four DAISY Awards each year. Nominations will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Yes. You can nominate a nurse or CNA again for consideration in the next submission period for each award for as long as you’d like. You will need to submit a new nomination form each time. We have many wonderful nurses and CNAs
and only one will be selected for each award each quarter. You can also nominate multiple nurses and/or CNAs. Each nomination will need its own submission form each time they are nominated.
