Expanded Tax Benefits for Making Charitable Gifts in 2026

Cornerstone Cornerstone News

In the United States no more than 10% of Americans itemize on their taxes. Most instead use the standard deduction when they file their annual tax return.

Last year, Congress passed a law that permits everyone to deduct a portion of their charitable gifts in 2026. This year, individuals who do not itemize – because their deductions amount to less than the standard deduction – will be able to itemize up to $1,000 in charitable gifts. And couples filing joint tax returns will be able to deduct up to $2,000 from their income, and thus pay less in taxes. This will be a deduction in addition to the standard deduction.

This year, please be sure to keep track of your charitable contributions, as you will be able to deduct a portion of your gifts from your income when you pay your taxes.

Please be sure to run any of your tax questions by a tax professional.
