St. Joseph Healthcare celebrated the opening of the new age-friendly unit on the 6th floor, designed to provide specialized care for older adults in our community. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine joined St. Joe’s Nurse Manager of Medicine/Neurology, Tracy Hopkins, RN, representative Edie Smith from Sen. Angus King’s office, Father Alou Pilizue and St. Joe’s Vice President for Operations, Sandy Nesin for a special blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The renovated floor features nine specially equipped rooms prioritizing both patient comfort and safety. New features include enhanced lighting, slip-resistant flooring and handrails for safety and comfort. The space creates a peaceful healing environment with noise-reducing materials and easy-to-read signs.
Understanding families’ vital role in the healing process, the unit includes comfortable areas for breaks and private calls, plus end-of-life rooms with sofa beds for overnight stays.
Federal funding secured by Sen. Collins and Sen. King, combined with generous contributions from St. Joe’s donors, made this transformative project possible. When considering
care options for your loved ones, St. Joe’s invites you to visit the new unit and see how it can serve your family’s needs.
