Damani Howell, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and Medical Director with Surgical Colleagues, currently leading orthopedic hospitalist programs at St. Joseph Hospital in both Bangor, ME and Nashua, NH, where he oversees a combined team of nine surgeons providing 24/7 trauma coverage and outpatient orthopedic care to their respective communities.
He earned his MD with honors in cell biology from NYU School of Medicine and completed a six-year orthopedic surgery residency at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, including a dedicated research year that yielded multiple peer-reviewed publications and recognition with the Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award from the AAOS. Over more than a decade of clinical practice spanning community hospitals in Connecticut, New York, and New England, Dr. Howell has developed particular expertise in orthopedic trauma and hand surgery, and has served as a performance physician for Madison Square Garden and the Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey Dance Companies.
A graduate of Amherst College and a former varsity basketball player, he brings the same commitment to performance and precision to his clinical leadership roles, including active participation on trauma care and orthopedic co-management committees at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. Currently pursuing an Executive MBA at NYU Stern, he is broadening his expertise in business and healthcare leadership — building on his clinical management experience to drive operational excellence and strategic growth across the orthopedic hospitalist programs he leads.
